This is an interesting opportunity for anyone who works, has visited, shares a personal interest or wants to inspire others to protect the Artic or Antarctica. I received the following email from a HB04 cohort friend, who is trying to support the UK Polar Network; Please contact Anna direct if you’d like more information;
Email received Jan 2019:
I’m contacting you from the UK Polar Network, a group of early career scientists in the UK. We’re involved in polar outreach in the UK, and every year do a number of school visits based on requests we have coming in from schools. We’ve also started running a polar pen pal project which has been really popular too. More info on our website here.
We rely on volunteers to reply to letters and visit schools, and mostly get enough helpers through our mailing list, but it’s not always easy to find people within easy travel distance of the schools. If you’re interested in being part of our network and are happy to be contacted about future outreach opportunities, please sign up to our mailing list here.
It really is a great chance to inspire some young minds and share your passion for the polar regions with them. They’re always a lot of fun, and the experience and skills you all have would make you excellent speakers.
